The Waterside Theatre has delivered 40 weeks of workshops from October 2020 to May 2021 with clients from Dementia NI.  The participants were from throughout Northern Ireland, with us meeting up weekly through Zoom.  For the first 20 weeks the talented writer Anne McMaster worked with the group to produce pieces of individual poetry for each of the participants.  The talented visual artist, Hilary Doherty then created personalised images to reflect the writing that had been produced.  Each participant learnt 8 different art techniques to produce their individualised final pieces.  The participants received the art materials by post with weekly online workshop sessions.

This project allowed people with Dementia to feel connected to society and to each other through a very isolating period and has had a positive impact on the lives of everyone involved.

We are looking forward to having a virtual exhibition of the work during the Summer and hopefully for the group to be able to meet up in person.

The Waterside Theatre would like to thank you to our partner Dementia Ni, to Awards for All and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for funding this wonderful project.
